Speaking words of life over our children

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." - Ephesians 4:29

If you've read the Old Testament, you know it's full of blessings and curses. But interestingly, those blessings and those curses had no magical powers. The very words themselves held the power, and the amount of power was directly based on the level of influence one person had over another. So as a parent, your words have *enormous* power to bless or curse your children. You can probably think of something your mom or dad said to you decades ago that is now either hindering or propelling you in your life as an adult.

If children are fed a steady diet of "What were you thinking?!" or "Why are you so difficult?" those words become the inner voices in their heads. It doesn't take long for them to believe those things about themselves. Praise God that their sin - just like yours - does not define them.

As mamas who want to raise children who think rightly about themselves and about God, let's choose to speak LIFE. I want to share some simple, Biblically-rooted blessings you can adopt. I dare you to try them out. It may feel a bit awkward at first, but just watch as your children light up and stand a little taller as they're spoken. I pray that when the enemy tempts them to believe lies, these words of life and hope will ring truer.

I created a printable PDF of these blessings for you to print from home and tape on your fridge (or somewhere you'll see it frequently). Just click here to download.
