I've combined my favorite homemade play dough recipe with an easy, natural way to dye it green. It's just in time for St. Patrick's Day!
Here's what you need:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour*
- 1/4 cup salt
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon matcha powder**
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or avocado oil
- Optional: Essential oil (we used sweet orange)
Instructions:
1. Stir together flour, salt, cream of tartar, and matcha powder in a pot.
2. Add water and oil and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it forms a ball and is no longer sticking to the sides of the pot, about 3-5 minutes.
3. Remove from heat and let the dough cool until cool enough to handle. Optional: Add a few drops of essential oil and knead it in.
*I used all-purpose flour for this, but I've also used King Arthur Gluten Free All-Purpose Flour with some success. Gluten-free flours tend to really soak up liquids, so I recommend using a scant cup of flour for this recipe.
**You could also try a little less spirulina powder (a little goes a long way!) or greens powder.
You can store this play dough in an airtight container for a few weeks or even months. Enjoy!
