Every year on July 4th, Americans celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we enjoy today. This 5-day family study helps children explore the deeper story behind Independence Day through the early history of America, including the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, and the traditions we celebrate.
Along the way, your family will reflect on themes of courage, truth, gratitude, sacrifice, and liberty through a biblical lens, pointing children toward the greater freedom found in Christ.
This guide is designed to help families slow down, learn together, and celebrate Independence Day with greater meaning and intentionality.
This guide is written for ages 5–12, but is designed to be done together as a family study, allowing both older and younger siblings to participate.
This is a 5-day study, but you could easily stretch it over two weeks, use it as part of your summer homeschool plans, or pick and choose favorite activities during the week leading up to the Fourth of July.

The Independence Day Guide
Our family really loved this Independence Day Study, it was such a well explanation of our country’s history for a child and us adults! Highly recommend for families looking for a devotional to go along with a history study!
This was a great resource for some ideas for studying the history of Independence Day. The lessons are well put together and you can pick and choose which parts you do to best fit your needs. I will likely repeat it next year.
I have so enjoyed using this resource with my 4- and 6 year old this week. The historical background and biblical tie-ins have sparked some sweet conversations, and I like the mix of recipes, crafts, and activities. If your budget allows, I highly recommend getting the printed resource. It makes things so accessible and visually lovely! This guide has made our 4th of July celebration so much more meaningful, rich, and life-giving!
I’m so please to have this themed study. We have loved all of the others, my children are older but the basic understanding is not lost.
