25 Favorite chapter books for ages 8-10

Liam, our 9-year-old, is a voracious reader and read over 50 books this past summer. He is not a big fan of fantasy (so you won't find too much of that on his lists), but he loves old-fashioned stories. He also enjoys historical fiction, true adventures, and stories about animals.

The list below contains 25 of Liam's favorite recent books. He recommends them for independent readers ages 8-10. I hope you find some new-to-you gems on this list!

You may notice that some of these books are out of print, but check to see if your local library might have them. If not, my favorite source for gently used books is Better World Books. I try to choose "like new" or "very good" condition and have saved so much money by purchasing used. If you can't find it on Better World Books, check the Amazon affiliate links below.

I've added short descriptions from the publisher to help you determine if your child might be interested in these books. Enjoy!
